Job summary

Varda Space Industries in El Segundo, CA, seeks a Thermofluids Engineer II to drive fluid system design for spacecraft thermal management through analysis, testing, and validation. You will define performance metrics and hardware requirements for ground testing and flight.

You will size thermofluid components, build 0D/1D models, and collaborate with payload, mechanical, software, and propulsion teams to deliver reliable thermal solutions for space operations.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline; 1–3+ years in thermofluids or propulsion in manufacturing env.
• 1+ years experience in thermofluids/propulsion in manufacturing.
• Strong heat transfer and incompressible fluid mechanics fundamentals.
• Background in 0D and 1D thermal/fluids networks.
• Experience with fluid/thermal modeling tools (SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, GFSSP).
• Knowledge of thermomechanical systems: heat exchangers, cold plates, vacuum chambers, pumps, valves, RTDs, transducers.
• Hands-on experience in thermal and TVAC testing.
• MATLAB or equivalent for data processing/automation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop active thermal control systems for vehicle and payload thermal management.
• Develop fluid network models interfacing with top level vehicle thermal model.
• Define hardware/operational requirements for fluid systems based on analysis and testing.
• Inform manufacturing and integration of thermal/fluid hardware onto the vehicle.
• Collaborate with payload, mechanical, software, propulsion teams to meet vehicle requirements.
• Characterize thermofluid performance of propulsion systems from analysis, ground testing, and flight data.
• Develop data processing infrastructure for ground and flight thermofluids systems.
