Job summary

Vets Hired seeks a Chief Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and delivery of advanced software and cloud-based solutions for space and defense missions. You will oversee architecture, prototyping, documentation, Agile practices, and cross-disciplinary collaboration to deliver secure, scalable, mission-critical applications.

Requirements include a TS clearance with SCI eligibility, 10+ years of engineering leadership, and hands-on experience with C++, Java, Python, MBSE/SysML,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.
• 10+ years of engineering leadership and software development experience.
• Experience with C++, C#, Java/Groovy, or Python.
• Knowledge of secure software development practices.
• Experience with MBSE and SysML.
• Experience designing and implementing DoD space systems.
• Knowledge of Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
• Experience using GitLab, Jira, Confluence, and modern development environments.
• Strong leadership, communication, and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis through deployment and support.
• Develop software prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions.
• Participate in Agile planning, code reviews, testing, debugging, and sprint activities.
• Support system architecture, design, and engineering decisions.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, including system designs and requirements.
• Recommend software enhancements and system improvements.
• Collaborate with software engineers, system engineers, architects, and cross-functional teams.
• Design and implement secure software solutions and cloud-based applications.
• Support MBSE activities.
• Develop and integrate space and ground system software solutions.
• Apply cybersecurity best practices throughout software development.
• Utilize version control and Agile development tools.
• Support continuous improvement and adoption of new technologies and engineering methodologies.
