Job summary

SmithGroup in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a Senior Space Planner to join our planning team. You will lead research, analyze data, develop space models, and present findings to clients and colleagues.

Ideal candidates hold a professional degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or Data Science, with 10+ years of related experience. Proficiency with Tableau, Power BI, and Archibus is preferred; travel up to 25–30% may be required.

Qualifications

• Professional degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, Data Science or related fields.
• Minimum 10+ years related experience preferred.
• Experience with higher education planning, space management, and/or institutional research.
• Proficient understanding of space types and planning in higher education at building and campus levels.
• Knowledge of data-based information and analytics; familiarity with data visualization software is preferred.
• Demonstrated thought leadership through publications and conference presentations.
• Ability to travel regionally and/or nationally approximately 25-30%.

Responsibilities

• Lead in research, analysis, and distillation of data to generate insights for planning solutions.
• Manage projects by defining scopes, fees, and quality of deliverables.
• Collaborate with data analysts to create space models and analyses for clients.
• Lead presentations with colleagues, consultants, and clients to share findings.
• Develop and manage client relationships and balance expectations with contracts.
• Advance space planning thought leadership through writing, analysis, and conference talks.
