Job summary

Intuitive Machines seeks a Surface Mobility and Robotics Mechanisms Engineer – Senior to join the Maryland Robotics & Mechanisms Center of Excellence in Glen Burnie, MD. The role focuses on design, fabrication, integration, testing and flight-readiness for rover mechanisms and robotic systems.

The engineer leads cross-functional teams on traction drive, actuators, and subsystems, coordinating from concept to test for spaceflight hardware in a lab setting.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related field; advanced degrees preferred.
• Minimum 10+ years of experience in mechanisms engineering.
• Expertise in bearing design, geartrains, seals, lubrication, and actuators.
• Proven ability to manage end-to-end flight hardware procurements and schedules.
• Proficiency with Creo and Windchill; familiarity with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

Responsibilities

• Serve as end-to-end Product Design Lead for Mars rover EDU build and outfitting.
• Technical lead for traction drive and steering drive actuator design and integration.
• Develop performance specs for actuators and oversee testing/characterization.
• Own the design and build of the vehicle superstructure with sensors and power systems.
• Lead integration of a 7-DOF robotic manipulator and tools; develop ConOps.
• Coordinate assembly and test procedures; ensure data collection and reporting.
• Work with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate mechanisms into the vehicle.
