Job summary

Portal Space Systems is seeking a Mechanisms Engineer to own a critical vehicle mechanism subsystem from concept through flight. You will work closely with propulsion, structures, avionics, GNC, and launch operations to design integrated systems, build hardware, and validate through test.

This hands‑on role requires fast iteration and total ownership of mechanisms that impact mission success. You will apply first‑order calculations, build FE models, and create detailed drawings with GD&T.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience designing mechanisms or complex mechanical systems for spacecraft or aerospace hardware.
  • Ownership of complex hardware projects from concept through design, manufacturing, integration and test.
  • Experience with launch-space environments and performing engineering analysis on mechanism performance.

Responsibilities

  • Own lifecycle of moving mechanical assemblies from requirements to post‑flight analysis.
  • Drive structural/kinematic design for minimum mass while meeting strength and life requirements.
  • Create detailed drawings with GD&T and tolerance stack‑ups.
  • Define and execute qualification/acceptance test campaigns; write test plans and dispositions.
  • Work on the factory floor with manufacturing to resolve build issues in real time.
