Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical hardware design and development for advanced space systems. The role emphasizes robust analytical methods, CAD leadership, and close collaboration with systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams.

You will drive design reviews and ensure manufacturability across complex hardware. The ideal candidate has a strong background in GD&T, materials selection, and full product lifecycle support from design through production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in mechanical design of hardware systems.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (CATIA, SolidWorks, or NX).
  • Experience with structural and thermal analyses (analytical/FEA).
  • Familiarity with GD&T and ASME Y14.5 drawing standards.
  • Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication; ability to document work clearly.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical hardware components and assemblies.
  • Perform structural and thermal analyses and tolerance stack-ups.
  • Develop CAD models, drawings, and BOMs per program standards.
  • Support hardware integration and testing activities.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams.
  • Prepare design specs, analysis reports, and test procedures.
  • Apply GD&T for proper fit and function across assemblies.
  • Support design reviews and program milestones.
