Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in New Mexico is seeking a Senior/Principal R&D Systems Engineer for space-based remote sensing research, onsite. The role emphasizes signals processing, remote sensing, machine learning, and physics-based modeling to provide technical leadership.

The successful candidate will conduct cutting-edge research, propose new methods, and serve as principal investigator on projects, with on-site work required due to security requirements and the sensitive nature of the work.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
• Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance and SCI
• Graduate degree in Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
• Experience working with Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) laboratories and plants including Pantex, KCNSC, LLNL, LANL, KCNSC/NMO.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership in space-based remote sensing research.
• Lead cutting-edge research and develop new ideas.
• Develop new methods and processes by identifying innovative approaches for complex problems.
• Proven ability to be self-motivated and work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience as a Principal Investigator or technical leadership on RI&D projects.
