Job summary

City of Albuquerque's Solid Waste Department seeks a CDL A driver to support refuse and recycling collection using various truck types, perform pre-trip inspections, and backfill routes as needed.

This role involves operating PTO-equipped equipment, coordinating with safety coordinators, and training staff while maintaining equipment and ensuring safe work practices in field and landfill environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Three years of driving with CDL Class A.
• One year CDL experience with automated side loaders, rear/front loaders, roll-offs, etc.
• Two years of large vehicle tow recovery experience.
• Automotive/transportation coursework preferred.
• CDL Class A and COP within 6 months; OJT for equipment and services.

Responsibilities

• Backfill residential/commercial refuse routes; load recyclables.
• Operate PTO-controlled devices and hydraulic systems on trucks.
• Tow/repair heavy-duty vehicles and coordinate with safety teams.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections; minor repairs as needed.
• Maintain and repair refuse containers and equipment; submit status reports.
• Lead or coordinate schedules and assignments in supervisor's absence.
