Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Senior Design Engineer, Solid Missile Systems, to design, analyze, and qualify solid rocket motor primary structures and propulsion elements. The role emphasizes additive manufacturing, high-rate production, and cross-functional collaboration.

The position requires a 5+ year aerospace/mechanical background, proficiency with CAD/analysis tools, and eligibility for a Secret Clearance. Colorado base salary ranges from $105,840 to $132,300 with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with rocket motors, solid propulsion elements, and structural interfaces.
• Proficiency with CAD/analysis tools and design for additive manufacturing (metal).
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics.
• Effective cross-functional communication and documentation skills.
• Understanding of insensitive munitions protocols and solid rocket motor design.
• Eligibility and maintenance of eligibility for a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design solid rocket motor primary and secondary structures per customer requirements.
• Distill requirements into a design that meets criteria for low-cost, reliable products.
• Lead development campaigns to prove conceptual designs for realized products.
• Provide guidance on assembly and testing of prototypes and troubleshooting.
• Review test data and support design changes as needed.
• Lead cross-functional communications to satisfy stakeholder needs.
• Develop aggressive, achievable product schedules and mitigate high-risk decisions.
• Generate, review, and approve CAD models and drawings per ASME Y14.5-2009.
• Provide dispositions for discrepant hardware with supporting analysis.
• Maintain documentation of designs, reviews, test plans, and verification.
• Coordinate with procurement to ensure supply chain capabilities for production.
• Act as technical mentor for junior engineers.
• Author guidance on design practices and formal documentation.
