Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Staff Designer to lead design, analysis, and qualification of solid rocket motor primary and secondary structures. The role emphasizes additive manufacturing design, metal AM experience, and scalable production with automation.

The candidate will mentor junior engineers, generate CAD models per ASME Y14.5-2009, and collaborate across teams to meet customer requirements while maintaining rigorous documentation and testing standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field with 7 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with rocket motors, solid propulsion elements, and structural interfaces.
• Proficiency with CAD and analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of design for additive manufacturing including metal additive processes.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics.
• Effective cross-functional communication and documentation.
• Eligible for Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Clean sheet design of novel solid rocket motors with limited guidance.
• Translate customer requirements into cost-effective, reliable designs.
• Lead development campaigns to prove conceptual designs.
• Guide assembly and testing of prototypes and troubleshoot as needed.
• Review test data and support design changes.
• Coordinate cross-functional communications to satisfy stakeholder needs.
• Develop aggressive project schedules and mitigate design risks.
• Generate and approve CAD models and drawings per ASME Y14.5-2009.
