Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Senior Design Engineer, Solid Missile Systems in Colorado to lead the design, analysis, and qualification of solid rocket motor primary and secondary structures against customer requirements. The role emphasizes metal additive manufacturing and designing for high-rate production and automation.

Responsibilities include CAD modeling to ASME Y14.5-2009, cross-functional collaboration, and mentoring less senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with rocket motors, solid propulsion elements, and structural interfaces.
• Proficiency with CAD/analysis tools and metal additive manufacturing.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and structural mechanics.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and documentation skills.
• Understanding of insensitive munition protocols for solid rocket motors.
• This position requires eligibility for a Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Clean sheet design of novel solid rocket motors with limited guidance.
• Translate customer requirements into cost-effective, reliable designs.
• Lead development campaigns to prove concepts and evaluate product applicability.
• Guide assembly and testing of prototypes and troubleshoot as needed.
• Review test data and support design changes.
• Coordinate cross-functional communications to satisfy stakeholder needs.
• Develop aggressive, achievable product schedules and mitigate high-risk decisions.
• Generate, review, and approve CAD models/drawings per ASME Y14.5-2009.
• Provide dispositions for discrepant hardware with supporting analyses.
• Maintain thorough design documentation and reviews.
• Collaborate with procurement to ensure supply chain can support planned production rates.
• Act as technical mentor to junior team members.
• Author design guidance and related formal documentation.
