Job summary

Ursa Major is seeking a Design Engineer II, Solid Missile Systems, to design, analyze, and qualify solid rocket motor primary and secondary structures, leveraging additive manufacturing. You will work cross-functionally to meet customer requirements and government standards, driving scalable designs and rapid production readiness.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in aerospace or mechanical engineering with 2+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with rocket motors, solid propulsion elements, and structural interfaces.
• Proficiency with CAD/analysis tools and additive manufacturing design knowledge.
• Strong fundamentals in thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and structural mechanics.
• Good communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and documentation.
• Understanding of insensitive munitions protocols in solid rocket motor design.
• Eligible and able to obtain/maintain a U.S. Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

• Create clean-sheet designs of novel solid rocket motors with limited guidance.
• Translate customer requirements into cost-effective, reliable designs.
• Lead development campaigns to prove concepts and assess applicability.
• Guide assembly/testing of prototypes and troubleshoot as needed.
• Review test data and support design changes.
• Coordinate cross-functional communication to meet stakeholder needs.
• Develop aggressive, achievable product schedules and mitigate risks.
• Approve CAD models/drawings per ASME Y14.5-2009.
• Dispositions for discrepant hardware with supporting analysis.
