Jobtailor is seeking an experienced software engineer to lead embedded C++ development for automotive telematics systems. You will drive design decisions, perform root cause analyses, and collaborate with suppliers to resolve field and integration issues.

The role focuses on safety-critical components, vehicle-network diagnostics, and cloud-connected system behavior, with opportunities to mentor newer engineers and shape architectural directions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field with 4–6 years of relevant experience or equivalent demonstrated knowledge with 8 years of full-time relevant experience
  • Strong C++ software development experience in embedded or systems-level environments
  • Experience developing, debugging, and validating software on automotive embedded systems
  • Familiarity with CAN and vehicle communication fundamentals
  • Familiarity with cloud-connected system behavior and telephony or cellular communication protocols
  • Experience translating requirements into software architecture, interfaces, and implementation plans
  • Experience investigating defects, debugging complex issues, and driving corrective action through closure
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Ability to work with moderate autonomy while escalating risk and seeking support as needed
  • Preferred: experience with telematics software, connectivity services, or safety-critical automotive domains
  • Preferred: familiarity with embedded Linux environments
  • Preferred: familiarity with automotive diagnostics

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of technical solutions for current, new, and major programs across requirements, decomposition, design, implementation, testing, and issue resolution
  • Lead software design for the system team and drive anomaly investigation, root cause analysis, corrective action, and verification
  • Perform complex design analysis and make engineering tradeoff decisions on functionality, quality, maintainability, scalability, performance, and safety
  • Develop embedded C++ software on telematics units including safety-critical components and connected vehicle capabilities
  • Debug software and system behavior in vehicles, labs, and integration environments
  • Work with suppliers on ticket resolution, technical clarification, validation follow-through, and closure of field or integration issues
  • Provide and reinforce software engineering best practices across the development community
  • Act as a subject matter expert for a platform area, subsystem, or application component
  • Contribute to architecture and design reviews and support system-level technical direction
  • Investigate issues, execute feature work and problem solving, and report workstream status when projects encounter risk
  • Help onboard and support newer engineers
  • Own or serve as go-to contact for telematics application software, connected services, vehicle network communication and diagnostics, cellular connectivity workflows, supplier issue resolution, and integration/validation support

Job description

Requirements


  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology, Information Security, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field, with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience

  • Equivalent demonstrated knowledge: a bachelor’s degree in another concentration plus 8 years of full-time relevant experience

  • Strong C++ software development experience in embedded or systems-level environments

  • Experience developing, debugging, and validating software on automotive embedded systems

  • Familiarity with CAN and vehicle communication fundamentals

  • Familiarity with cloud-connected system behavior and telephony or cellular communication protocols

  • Experience performing design analysis and translating requirements into software architecture, interfaces, and implementation plans

  • Experience investigating defects, debugging complex issues, and driving corrective action through closure

  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly across engineering teams, suppliers, and stakeholders

  • Ability to work effectively with moderate autonomy while escalating risk and seeking support appropriately

  • No GM immigration-related sponsorship available now or in the future; applicants must not require GM sponsorship or listed immigration support

  • Preferred: experience with telematics software, connectivity services, or safety-critical automotive domains

  • Preferred: familiarity with embedded Linux environments
