Job summary

Coinbase, Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for the Access & Authorization team within the Platform group. You will shape authentication and authorization across distributed services, balancing security with a smooth user experience.

You will own end-to-end design for OAuth, sessions, tokens, and 2FA, building secure Go/gRPC services used by web, mobile, API, and partner experiences. Strong emphasis on observability, SLOs, and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software engineering in production systems.
• Experience designing secure APIs with authentication and authorization.
• Strong experience with gRPC, Protocol Buffers, and data stores (Redis/DynamoDB).
• Proven ability to deliver complex cross-functional projects with clear communication.
• Ability to use AI responsibly to improve workflows with human oversight.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design and operation of authentication, sessions, and tokens.
• Build secure, low-latency Go/gRPC services across Coinbase products.
• Lead technical designs for signed tokens, passkeys, device-aware auth, and OAuth.
• Collaborate with product, security, fraud, and infra teams to balance goals.
• Create self-service tooling to scale access controls safely.
• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and on-call activities.
