Job summary

MetLife Legal Plans is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a fully remote role anywhere in the continental United States. The engineer will lead architecture, build scalable client-facing apps and APIs, and own the full SDLC from discovery to production support.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years’ experience with modern web stacks (React, Django, PostgreSQL, AWS) and Docker, plus experience mentoring engineers and integrating AI tools like GitHub Copilot.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, MIS, or equivalent.
• 5+ years’ experience building web applications.
• Experience with microservices architecture.
• Experience with Linux and deploying web apps.
• Familiarity with React, Django, AWS, PostgreSQL.
• Experience using Docker-based environments.
• Proficient in SDLC, Agile development, and OKR.
• Ability to lead and mentor engineers.
• Experience using AI development tools like GitHub Copilot.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, architecture, and technology selection for client-facing applications, backend systems, and APIs.
• Build scalable, secure, and high-performing web applications.
• Own software solutions throughout the full SDLC from discovery to production support.
• Develop high-quality code using modern engineering principles.
• Translate business requirements into technical solutions and actionable plans.
• Establish technical standards, architectural guidelines, and development best practices.
• Perform code reviews to ensure quality, security, and standards.
• Design and implement integrations and APIs connecting systems.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve performance and UX.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize work and deliver business value.
• Lead, coach, and mentor mid-level and junior engineers.
• Manage software projects end-to-end with accountability and collaboration.
