Job summary

Karoo Health Inc is seeking a seasoned software engineer to join our Engineering team. You will craft high-quality backend and full-stack systems, leaning on AWS and cloud-native practices to build scalable, secure solutions.

You will own the software lifecycle from requirements to deployment, optimize databases for performance, and ensure healthcare data handling compliance with HIPAA/HITRUST while enabling fast iteration in a founder-driven startup.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5 years of dedicated professional backend or full stack engineering experience in startup or fast-paced environments.
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and cloud-native development.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Proficiency in designing RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
• Hands-on experience with test automation, CI/CD, and DevOps practices.
• Strong knowledge of system architecture, scalability, and performance optimization.
• Experience with authentication, security best practices, and API design patterns.
• Ability to work independently and make high-impact technical decisions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Execute: Craft clean, testable, and maintainable code.
• Deliver: Own the software from requirements through deployment and maintenance.
• Operationalize Data: Architect, optimize, and maintain databases for reliability and performance.
• Architect: Design and deploy scalable, secure cloud infrastructure using IaC.
• Safeguard Data: Ensure compliance with healthcare data regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST).
