Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment for VA Data Modernization. The role is fully remote in the United States and requires expertise in Java, Spring, Hibernate, JPA, and REST APIs.

You will mentor engineers, drive CI/CD, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to deliver secure, scalable solutions. The ideal candidate has 12+ years in IT, strong English communication, Agile experience, and cloud familiarity (Azure preferred).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field with 12+ years of experience.
• Expertise with Java frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA.
• Strong JavaScript proficiency and RESTful API design understanding.
• Git usage with ADO or GitHub; Agile/Scrum experience; English communication skills.
• Cloud experience (Azure preferred) and data/ORM tooling knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications in a cross-domain solution.
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to capture and plan requirements.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Design robust CI/CD pipelines and work with DevOps for automated delivery.
• Ensure security, reliability, and compliance through automated practices.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and optimize performance and scalability.
• Participate in system architecture discussions and resolve complex issues.
