Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Sr Software Engineer for the Streaming Data Platform team. You will shape architecture and evolution of real-time data infrastructure powering Uber’s global marketplace.

The role demands leadership across organizations, deep systems expertise, and a focus on reliability, performance, and developer experience. You will mentor engineers, drive architectural tradeoffs, and collaborate with infrastructure, data engineering, and product teams to align platform

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems principles and fault tolerance.
• Proven experience architecting high-performance, scalable systems.
• Proficiency in one or more backend languages (Java/Go/C++/Scala/Python/Rust).
• Experience with large-scale data infrastructure and streaming systems.
• Track record of technical leadership across multi-team initiatives.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and shaping engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision and architecture for Uber's streaming data platform.
• Lead design and evolution of large-scale distributed streaming systems.
• Drive modernization to simplify systems and improve efficiency.
• Establish strategies for performance, reliability, and cost optimization.
• Architect multi-tenant infrastructure supporting diverse workloads.
• Build platform capabilities like automation, observability, and self-service tooling.
• Evaluate new technologies and inform long-term roadmaps.
• Provide technical leadership for cross-organizational initiatives.
• Establish engineering excellence and operational best practices.
• Mentor and elevate senior engineers across teams.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, storage, data engineering, and product teams.
