Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team. You will contribute to performance engineering initiatives, improving optimization and predictability across distributed systems, collaborating with area-specific teams to enhance our software.

You will profile bottlenecks, implement AI-assisted optimization harnesses, and provide technical guidance to engineers, while maintaining scalable, robust performance in diverse environments.

Qualifications

Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
Proven experience profiling and optimizing distributed systems.
Experience with benchmarking tools and performance regression detection.
Strong collaboration across teams and autonomous decision making.

Responsibilities

Contribute to core performance initiatives from development to production with impactful optimizations.
Implement performance models for distributed systems and ensure scalability.
Profile and analyze logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL to identify bottlenecks.
Lead automation efforts for profiling, hypothesis testing, and benchmarking.
