Job summary

Elastic, the Search AI Company, seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team. You will contribute to performance engineering initiatives, profiling and optimizing distributed systems to improve Elasticsearch scalability and predictability.

You will drive automated benchmarking and collaborate across teams to implement AI-assisted optimization and robust performance practices in production environments.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Proven profiling/optimizing distributed systems with benchmarking tools.
• Experience with AI-assisted optimization and automation.
• Ability to collaborate across teams and drive initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Drive performance optimizations from development to production.
• Develop performance models for distributed systems.
• Support optimization strategies for scalability.
• Profile system behavior to identify bottlenecks in logging, metrics, vector search, ES|QL.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful/serverless architectures.
• Collaborate to apply performance practices to new features.
• Build AI-assisted optimization harnesses for profiling and benchmarking.
• Provide technical guidance and peer reviews.
