Job summary

Elastic is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join the Elasticsearch Performance team. You will contribute to performance engineering initiatives through high-quality code and technical analysis aimed at improving optimization and predictability of Elasticsearch across diverse environments.

You will profile and optimize distributed systems, build AI-assisted optimization harnesses, and drive benchmarking and automation.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of Java internals and JVM memory management.
• Concurrence models understanding and high-performance, thread-safe coding.
• Profiling distributed systems and benchmarking experience with JMH or Rally.
• Ability to apply AI-assisted optimization to debugging and benchmarking workflows.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to core performance initiatives from development to production.
• Implement performance models for complex distributed systems.
• Support optimization to keep Elasticsearch performant and scalable.
• Profile and analyze logging, metrics, vector search, and ES|QL for bottlenecks.
• Ensure robust benchmarks and regression detection for stateful and serverless architectures.
• Collaborate across teams to apply performance-focused practices to new features.
• Develop automation for AI-assisted optimization and benchmarking.
• Provide technical guidance and reviews to engineers.
