Job summary

VGS in Oakland, CA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Payments Acceptance team. You will design, scale, and fortify high-throughput payment systems and expand our Value-Added Services like Network Tokens, Account Updater, 3DS, and Account Validation.

You will collaborate with tech leads and product teams, apply AI-native tooling, and champion reliability, security, and low latency in a distributed system handling 10,000+ TPS.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience in high-throughput distributed systems.
• Strong Java and microservices design skills (Spring/Spring Boot).
• Experience with data/messaging systems (Kafka, SQS).
• Cloud-native delivery with containers (Docker, Kubernetes) and AWS.
• Solid security practices and familiarity with PCI-DSS/SOC2.
• Growth mindset with initiative and autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Build mission-critical payments services with high availability and low latency.
• Drive AI-native engineering and integrate agentic workflows into SDLC.
• Develop automated, self-healing services with GitOps and IaC.
• Maintain observability tooling and participate in on-call rotations.
• Mentor engineers and promote high-quality code and testing standards.
• Ensure security and performance for external traffic and internal adoption.
