Job summary

VGS is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager (US-only) to lead the Payments Acceptance team. This backend-heavy leadership role focuses on expanding our Value-Added Services, including Network Tokens, Account Updater, 3DS, and Account Validation.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Payments Acceptance, you will drive AI-augmented delivery, recruit and mentor talent, and collaborate across Product, CTO, and security teams to ensure scalable, secure, and reliable services.

Qualifications

• Leadership experience as Engineering Manager/Technical lead or Architect in enterprise or SaaS
• Strong command of Agile, DevOps, and SRE practices for AI-integrated development
• Deep experience with microservices in Java, APIs, event-driven architectures, SQL/NoSQL, and scalable systems
• Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and AWS or similar cloud
• Proven track record defining SLAs/SLOs and using modern observability tools
• Experience with SOC2, PCI-DSS, ISO27001 compliance and security practices
• Leadership style focused on front-line ownership and continuous improvement
• Willingness to participate in team-based on-call rotations and incident response

Responsibilities

• Oversee end-to-end delivery of AI-augmented services from design to production
• Partner with Product Management to align feature roadmaps with security and scalability
• Hire, coach, and mentor a high-performing engineering team and lead by example
• Drive architectural decisions with CTO and Tech Leads to balance innovation and standard patterns
• Manage unplanned workstreams, incidents, vulnerabilities, and defects with reliability focus
• Collaborate with Payments Acceptance Foundations, Sustaining, Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure production readiness
• Cultivate a culture of code quality, testing, automation, and robust code reviews
• Lead with humility, create value for customers, and own the outcomes of the team's work
