Senior Software Engineer- Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE)

Position Summary: GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer passionate about building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will drive our insurance business transformation by transitioning from a traditional IT model to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description: Our engineers collaborate with Sr Staff Engineers to innovate, build new systems, improve existing ones, and identify new opportunities. You will lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to enhance product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities. Deep expertise in open-source observability and data platform domains is ideal.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing technical and thought leadership across the enterprise
• Collaborating with product managers, teams, and clients to solve complex problems
• Developing and executing technical strategies for Observability Engineering
• Ensuring quality, usability, and performance of solutions
• Mentoring and coaching team members and influencing leadership
• Sharing best practices and improving processes
• Analyzing costs, forecasting, and resource planning
• Supporting operational needs, including on-call duties

Qualifications:

• Experience in building distributed systems for large-scale telemetry with knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
• Proficiency in at least one OOP language (Java, Go, Python, etc.)
• Knowledge of open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Clickhouse, Cassandra, Apache Trino)
• Experience designing observability platforms and data analytics using open-source tech
• Strong communication skills and leadership capabilities
• Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
• Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and big data architectures
• Knowledge of monitoring tools like Grafana and Prometheus

Experience:

• At least 3 years in software development, platform architecture, or related fields
• Experience with open-source frameworks and cloud services

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $215,000 annually, based on factors like experience and location.
