Senior Software Engineer- Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE)

Position Summary

GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer with a passion for building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation as we transition from a traditional IT model to a tech organization with engineering excellence as its mission, fostering a culture of psychological safety and continuous improvement.

Position Description

Our engineers work with Sr Staff Engineers to innovate, build new systems, improve existing ones, and identify new opportunities. You will lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase product delivery velocity and unlock new engineering capabilities. Deep technical expertise in Open-Source Observability and Data platform domains is ideal.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and thought leadership across the enterprise
• Collaborate with product managers, teams, customers, and engineering colleagues to solve complex problems
• Develop and execute technical strategies for the Observability Engineering domain
• Ensure quality, usability, and performance of solutions
• Mentor team members and influence technical best practices
• Share best practices and improve processes across teams
• Analyze costs, forecast, and incorporate into business planning
• Support resource planning, evaluate processes, measure outcomes, and promote continuous learning
• Willingness to take on-call and operational support duties

Qualifications

• Experience building complex distributed systems for large-scale telemetry with knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
• Proficiency in at least one OOP language (Java, Go, Python, etc.)
• Understanding of open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Clickhouse, Cassandra, Apache Trino)
• Experience designing and building Observability platforms and advanced data analytics with open-source tech
• Experience with distributed systems and open-source tools like GIT, Jenkins, CircleCI, Terraform, Ansible
• Strong communication skills and ability to lead projects and interact with stakeholders
• Knowledge of CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, data structures, algorithms, and big data architectures
• Experience with Windows Server and Event Log, streaming data pipelines (Lambda/Kappa), and ML/AI technologies

Experience

• 3+ years in software development, platform architecture, infrastructure management
• 3+ years working with open-source frameworks
• 1+ years in architecture and design roles
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or hybrid data centers

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent

Salary Range

$90,000 - $215,000 annually, depending on experience and other factors. GEICO will not sponsor employment authorization for this role at this time.
