Senior Software Engineer - Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE)

Join GEICO as a Senior Software Engineer - Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE).

Position Summary: GEICO is seeking an experienced Senior Engineer passionate about building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will drive our insurance business transformation, transitioning from traditional IT to a tech organization focused on engineering excellence, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.

Position Description: Our engineers collaborate with senior staff to innovate, build new systems, enhance existing ones, and identify new opportunities. You will lead strategy and execution of a technical roadmap to increase delivery velocity and unlock new capabilities. Deep expertise in open-source observability and data platform domains is ideal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing technical and thought leadership across the enterprise
  • Collaborating with product managers, teams, and clients to solve complex problems
  • Developing and executing strategies for observability engineering
  • Ensuring quality, usability, and performance of solutions
  • Mentoring and coaching team members and influencing leadership
  • Sharing best practices and improving processes
  • Analyzing costs, resource needs, and operational processes
  • Supporting on-call and operational duties

Qualifications:

  • Experience in building distributed systems for large-scale telemetry, with knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes
  • Proficiency in at least one OOP language such as Java, Go, or Python
  • Knowledge of open-source databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (Clickhouse, Cassandra, Apache Trino), and data formats like Parquet or Avro
  • Experience in architecting observability platforms and data analytics using open-source tools
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead projects
  • Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and analytical problem-solving
  • Experience with Windows Server and event logs is a plus
  • Knowledge of developer tools, big data, streaming architectures (Lambda/Kappa), and open-source monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus)

Experience:

  • 3+ years in software development, architecture, and infrastructure management
  • 3+ years working with open-source frameworks
  • 1+ years in architecture and design
  • Experience with cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure) for 3+ years

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent.

Salary Range: $90,000 - $215,000 annually, based on experience and other factors.
