Senior Software Engineer - Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE)

Join to apply for the Senior Software Engineer - Observability and Reliability Platform Engineering (REMOTE) role at GEICO.

This role offers a salary range of $90,000 to $215,000 per year, depending on skills and experience. GEICO is seeking an experienced engineer passionate about building high-performance, low-maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. You will help drive our insurance business transformation, transitioning from traditional IT to a tech-focused organization emphasizing engineering excellence, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical and thought leadership across multiple areas of the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with product managers, team members, customers, and other engineering teams to solve complex problems.
  • Develop and execute technical strategies for the Observability Engineering domain.
  • Ensure the quality, usability, and performance of solutions.
  • Mentor and coach engineering and product teams, influence executives, and share best practices.
  • Analyze costs, forecast, and incorporate findings into business plans.
  • Support resource planning, evaluate operational processes, and demonstrate adaptability and continuous learning.
  • Willing to take on-call and operational support duties.
Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with distributed systems processing large-scale telemetry, using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Proficiency in at least one OOP language such as Java, Go, or Python.
  • Knowledge of open-source and NoSQL databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Clickhouse, Cassandra, and Apache Trino.
  • Experience designing and building Observability platforms and using open-source monitoring tools like Grafana and Prometheus.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to lead projects and interact with clients.
  • Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, big data formats, and streaming data architectures.
  • Experience with open-source tools like GIT, Jenkins, CircleCI, Terraform, and Ansible is a plus.
  • Willingness to work in fast-paced, startup-like environments and on both development and operational tasks.
Experience & Education
  • 3+ years in software development, platform architecture, or related fields.
  • Experience with open-source frameworks and cloud services.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
