Job summary

Karius is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable cloud-native software that supports infectious disease diagnostics.

You will work with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, analytics, and clinical operations to deliver reliable services Responsibilities include developing backend services in TypeScript, deploying with Docker/Kubernetes on AWS, and ensuring code quality through testing and reviews.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience in backend systems.
• Experience building backend production services in scalable environments.
• 3+ years of TypeScript and Node.js in production.
• Experience with design and implementation of scalable, reliable systems.
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL schemas, indexing, and migrations.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and containerized apps.
• Familiarity with testing frameworks (Jest, Vitest, Playwright).
• Strong communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Understand user needs and collaborate with cross-functional groups across engineering, product, analytics and operations.
• Create and maintain technical design docs for system components and workflows.
• Implement and test software solutions end-to-end.
• Monitor performance, reliability, and scalability of systems.
• Participate in design and code reviews and support deployments.
• Troubleshoot production issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Identify risks and tradeoffs; advise on engineering decisions.
• Contribute to process improvements in tools and workflows.
• Build domain expertise to ensure scalable, reliable software.
