Job summary

Amazon Web Services is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to join the Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS) team in Seattle, WA. You will own the mesh data path, deciding where Layer 4/mTLS live versus Layer 7 processing, and drive performance budgets across the path.

You will mentor engineers and collaborate with kernel/eBPF and control-plane teams to deliver high-impact, scalable networking solutions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of programming in at least one language.
• 5+ years of leading design/architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Design the mesh data path: traffic interception, encryption, and forwarding between services without a per-pod sidecar.
• Decide where Layer 4 and mTLS enforcement live (per-node proxy and the kernel) versus where Layer 7 processing happens.
• Own the data path performance budget (latency, CPU, memory) against a per-pod sidecar baseline with measured results.
• Partner with the control plane, kernel/eBPF, and protocols engineers whose subsystems run inside the path you design.
• Raise the bar through design reviews and code reviews, and mentor engineers building on the data path.
