Job summary

IPG Photonics seeks a Senior Software Engineer to join the Material Processing Systems Group, developing software for laser-based material processing systems. You will design, implement, test, and maintain features in machine control architectures while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with electrical, mechanical, and applications teams.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience in industrial automation, CNC, robotics, or manufacturing systems.
• BSCE, BSCS, BSEE or equivalent; MS a plus.
• Strong proficiency in debugging and solving complex technical challenges.
• Experience developing software for hardware-integrated systems.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design and software best practices.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements and specifications to develop software for laser-based material processing systems.
• Design, implement, test, and maintain features within machine control architectures.
• Act as a senior contributor, providing technical input and mentoring junior engineers.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and applications engineers for integrated solutions.
• Support machine builds, testing, commissioning, and field service activities.
• Diagnose and resolve system-level issues in software, motion control, and vision.
• Ensure code quality through standards, testing, and maintainability.
