Job summary

IPG Photonics seeks a Mechanical Design Engineer to advance mechanical systems for IPG Systems. You will design mechanical structures, motion systems, and control interfaces, producing robust 3D models and 2D drawings with SolidWorks, DraftSight, and AutoCAD.

You will ensure manufacturability, maintain project documentation, and support transitions to production. The role requires a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field, 5+ years of SolidWorks experience, and strong GD&T,

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
• 5+ years of professional SolidWorks experience with familiarity in PDM.
• 1+ year of professional 2D design/drafting in DraftSight or AutoCAD.
• Create final sketches and drawings with proper dimensions and materials.
• Apply knowledge of machines, engineering practices, and materials to complete drawings.
• Edit existing designs for special applications including reverse engineering.
• Maintain documentation and folder organization for projects.
• Compute tolerances and annotate drawings to ISO standards and specifications.
• Proficiency in GD&T to ensure proper fit and function.
• Conduct failure analyses, document results, and implement corrective actions.
• Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Collaborate with other departments to develop design concepts and solutions.

Responsibilities

• CAD design and development of mechanical systems.
• Create 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings using SolidWorks and DraftSight/AutoCAD.
• Assess specifications and performance to define manufacturability requirements.
• Specify components or modify products to meet design and performance specs.
• Maintain project documentation including BOMs and CAD models.
• Create and manage part numbers and BOMs in IPG ERP system.
• Support transfer of hardware designs to manufacturing.
