Job summary

State Street is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the IBOR Development Team in Irvine, CA. The role focuses on COBOL-based applications, modernization efforts, and collaboration with architects, analysts, and QA to deliver scalable technology solutions.

You will lead design and development, participate in modernization initiatives, and mentor junior engineers while aligning with Agile practices and enterprise standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in CS/Engineering/IS or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Significant hands-on COBOL development and support experience.
• Experience in complex enterprise environments.
• Strong SDLC, Agile practices, and software engineering best practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of IBOR applications.
• Analyze requirements and translate into technical solutions.
• Develop and support COBOL-based enterprise applications.
• Participate in modernization by converting COBOL to Java-based solutions.
• Collaborate with architects, analysts, QA, and infrastructure teams.
• Perform system analysis, design, coding, testing and implementation.
• Troubleshoot production issues and resolve defects promptly.
• Review code and designs for standards and best practices.
• Contribute to performance tuning, stability, and reliability.
• Support Agile practices including sprint planning and releases.
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership.
• Participate in modernization assessments and roadmap planning.
