Job summary

State Street is seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join our IBOR Development Team. The role focuses on COBOL-based development with modernization toward Java, collaborating with architects and business stakeholders to deliver innovative solutions.

You will lead design and development of IBOR applications, participate in modernization initiatives, and mentor junior developers. Onsite 4 days a week, with standard business hours and strong emphasis on collaboration and quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Significant hands-on COBOL development and support.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of mission-critical IBOR applications.
• Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Develop and support enterprise applications using COBOL and related technologies.
• Participate in application modernization initiatives, converting/refactoring COBOL to Java-based solutions.
• Collaborate with solution architects, business analysts, QA, and infra teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Perform system analysis, technical design, coding, testing, and implementation activities.
• Troubleshoot production issues and provide timely resolution for defects.
• Review code and designs to ensure standards and best practices are followed.
• Contribute to performance tuning, stability improvements, and operational excellence.
• Support Agile practices including sprint planning, estimation, and releases.
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical leadership.
• Participate in modernization assessments and roadmaps.
