Job summary

The New York Public Library is hiring a Senior Software Engineer I for the Institutional Services group. The role is hybrid with three days in the NYC office at Stephen A. Schwarzman Building, reporting to Christina Entcheva, in the Digital department.

You will build and maintain full-stack applications using Python, React, and TypeScript to provide access to NYPL resources. Responsibilities include coding, testing, code reviews, and contributing to architecture decisions under guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Equivalent 5 years of hands-on development experience with relevant tech stack.
• Experience writing clean, maintainable code across Python, React and TypeScript.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills; ability to mentor others.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain scalable software across Python, React, and TypeScript.
• Collaborate with multiple teams to build innovative applications for NYPL patrons.
• Lead code reviews and mentor engineers, contributing to design and architecture discussions.
