Job summary

PayPal is hiring a Staff Software Engineer in Austin, TX, forming a hybrid team that does 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. You will design, build, and optimize scalable backend services using Java, Golang, Python, and C++ on a distributed stack.

You’ll work with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), Kubernetes, and high-performance stores like Aerospike/Redis, mentoring engineers and delivering low-latency solutions across fintech systems.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or Bachelor’s with six years of related experience.
• Experience with three or more backend languages: Java, Golang, Python, or C++.
• Experience with high-performance distributed data stores (Aerospike/Redis).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP) and Kubernetes.
• Experience with microservices/SOA architectures and Spring Boot or Kraken.

Responsibilities

• Analyze software requirements and translate them into scalable designs.
• Develop software that meets performance, reliability, and scalability goals.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define specifications and release scope.
• Write and test code with a focus on low-latency, zero-downtime deployments.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in design and code reviews.
