Job summary

Smile Digital Health in Canada seeks a Senior Software Developer to lead investigation, design, and delivery of solutions for complex client-reported issues on the Smile platform. You will ensure reliable healthcare systems in production while mentoring teammates and driving engineering excellence.

You will balance urgent customer needs with sustainable practices, navigate ambiguity, and shape architectural decisions across large-scale systems within a healthcare data platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring, SQL, Git and distributed systems.
• Experience debugging, observability, logging and monitoring.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and drive projects end-to-end.
• Healthcare tech knowledge (HL7 or FHIR) is a plus.
• Experience with integration frameworks such as Apache Camel is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead investigation and resolution of complex production issues.
• Design, implement, and maintain scalable, reliable Smile platform software.
• Drive root cause analysis and long-term corrective actions.
• Provide technical leadership during incidents and escalations.
• Review, optimize, and refactor systems for performance and maintainability.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure coding standards.
• Mentor intermediate and junior developers.
• Contribute to architectural discussions and strategy.
• Perform risk assessments of bugs on production systems.
• Create and maintain technical docs and procedures.
