Job summary

Millennium is seeking a senior Java backend engineer to lead a small team in designing and delivering scalable, low-latency services and streaming components. You will collaborate with risk managers, quants, and technologists across multiple locations to align on requirements and priorities.

You will own features end to end, mentor peers, and promote engineering excellence while leveraging AI-assisted development and modern DevOps practices. Strong Java, Kafka and cloud experience are valued.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software development experience with strong Java (Core Java, JVM, 17+).
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (CS/Engineering/Math/Physics).
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers and owning features end to end.
• Solid OO design, multithreading, distributed systems; exposure to Kafka preferred.
• Good stakeholder communication with front-office audiences; UNIX/Linux comfort; CI/CD (Jenkins), Git, and DevOps practices.
• Desirable front-end exp (TypeScript/JavaScript); knowledge of VaR/risk concepts; cloud exp (AWS) and AI-assisted dev tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and maintain scalable, low-latency Java services and streaming components.
• Lead a team of about three engineers; review code, mentor peers, and promote ownership and quality.
• Collaborate with risk managers, quants, and technologists across multiple offices to gather requirements and set priorities.
• Ensure production readiness: monitoring, troubleshooting, and data integrity across systems.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted development and modern tooling to improve pace and quality.
