Job summary

Waymo is seeking a skilled engineer to design and implement optimizations for Fleet Response operations. You will collaborate with multiple teams to identify headroom in workload and generate ideas for operational improvements.

You will also work with onboard engineering to sunset unnecessary tasks and enhance cross-functional analysis. The role requires a strong background in C++ and 5+ years navigating complex distributed systems, with a proactive, investigative mindset and ability to partner

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or similar technical field.
5+ years of industry experience navigating complex distributed systems.
Experience with C++ or related structured programming language.
Curious, investigative mindset with bias towards action.
Ability to dive into new problems and codebases.
Experience working with non-technical cross-functional partners.

Responsibilities

Design and implement measures to increase the efficiency and decrease the cost of Fleet Response operations
Partner with other teams at Waymo to find headroom in their shares of operational workload
Generate and research ideas for new optimizations of the work operators perform
Work with onboard engineering teams to sunset operational work that is no longer necessary
Contribute to cross-functional analysis and optimization efforts
Improve regression-detection and culprit-finding for changes that negatively impact operational metrics
