Job summary

Swiftly, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join a cross-functional team enabling transit agency devices and cloud services.

You will work on edge devices, onboard hardware integrations, and backend services that configure and process data from buses, trains, and ferries. The role emphasizes hands-on hardware work, OTA deployments, and building scalable cloud-native systems with a strong product mindset.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with embedded/IoT or edge computing
• Strong Linux skills including containerization, system administration, networking and security
• Experience with multiple communication protocols (serial, HTTP/REST, MQTT) and cloud-native architectures (AWS)
• Proficiency in Python, Java, and JavaScript/TypeScript; SQL databases
• Hands-on with hardware and devices, OTA updates, and edge-to-cloud integrations

Responsibilities

• Design, build, maintain and extend products for embedded/hardware-enabled systems
• Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering to validate customer needs
• Develop integrations with onboard hardware devices (headsign controllers, counters, fareboxes)
• Build cloud-native backend services for device configuration and telemetry
• Implement robust OTA deployment and remote device management
• Design testing strategies for hardware-in-the-loop environments
• Contribute to remote development/testing strategies when not local to SF
• Deliver incremental value and regularly demo progress
• Communicate trade-offs and document architectural decisions
• Mentor teammates through code reviews and pairing
