DigitalOcean is seeking a Senior Software Engineer II for the Managed Databases (DBaaS) team to design and scale the DBaaS platform. You’ll own control-plane and infrastructure components, improve throughput, multi-region operability, and reliability for production workloads.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Production cloud environment with high-concurrency challenges.
• Working knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or MySQL internals, including query performance, replication, and scale.
• Strong understanding of concurrency, failure modes, multi-region concerns, and performance optimization in production Linux/cloud environments.
• Experience scaling services for data-intensive or AI workloads.
• Track record of driving cross-team technical projects and mentoring engineers.
• Growth mindset and focus on maintainability of architecture.

Responsibilities

• Architect and implement DBaaS platform systems for scalable control-plane and infrastructure components.
• Translate ambiguous requirements into clear designs and deliverables with product/engineering partners.
• Own performance and resiliency outcomes, targeting gains in throughput and availability.
• Improve automated failover, PITR, backups, and maintenance workflows.
• Scale for data-heavy and AI workloads while ensuring security and compliance.
• Lead design reviews, document architecture decisions, and guide the squad.
