Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead the design, development, and deployment of complex applications as part of the VA Data Modernization initiative. This fully remote role is based in the United States, with responsibilities spanning SDLC leadership, code reviews, and performance optimization.

You will mentor mid-level engineers, collaborate with architects and product managers, and drive CI/CD pipelines and security/compliance focus across the stack.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field; 12+ years of experience.
• Expertise with Java frameworks: Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, JPA.
• Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript.
• RESTful web services and API design.
• Git version control (ADO or GitHub).
• Experience with Agile/Scrum teams.
• Excellent communication in English (oral & written).
• Ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams and document architecture decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications in a cross-domain solution.
• Drive modern SDLC practices and Agile management of work.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to mid-level engineers.
• Define technical solutions with architects and product managers.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce best practices.
