Job summary

GovCIO is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead design, development, and deployment of core applications for VA Data Modernization. This fully remote role can be based anywhere in the United States.

You will work in an Agile environment, mentor engineers, and drive secure, scalable solutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement robust APIs, optimize performance, and build CI/CD pipelines with DevOps support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field with 12+ years of experience.
• Strong experience with Java ecosystems including Spring, Boot, Hibernate and JPA.
• Deep knowledge of RESTful APIs, data modeling, and ORM tools.
• Proficient in version control (Git) and Agile/Scrum practices.
• Ability to lead, review code, and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and deployment of complex applications within a cross-domain solution.
• Apply Agile/Scrum practices to manage and deliver work for modernization teams.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to mid-level engineers.
• Collaborate with architects and product managers to define technical solutions.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce best practices.
• Design and optimize CI/CD pipelines and collaborate with DevOps for delivery.
• Ensure security, reliability, and compliance through automated design and testing.
• Influence key technical decisions through system architecture discussions.
• Investigate and resolve complex production issues across environments.
