Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Content Tools to own the APIs and retrieval components that power AI agents with precise access to TR’s legal content. You will design, build, test, deploy, and operate content APIs in collaboration with researchers and product teams.

The role emphasizes end-to-end ownership, contract-driven tooling, and verified spec-driven development, with Python, FastAPI, and AWS in a modern, AI-assisted workflow.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and testing production backend, API, or data-infrastructure systems.
• Mastery of Python and strong fundamentals, including API design and a rigorous testing discipline.
• Solid distributed-systems knowledge and resilience.
• Experience with AWS, Datadog, and CI/CD practices; frequent small PRs.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own Content Tools end-to-end: APIs and retrieval components for querying TR legal content.
• Build API-first tools with versioned contracts, schemas, and ownership metadata for self-service usage.
• Design retrieval components with latency budgets and token-aware payloads.
• Collaborate with researchers on Vespa-based search for improved relevance.
• Follow verified spec-driven development with evaluations and CI gates.
• Work with Python, FastAPI, and Pydantic on AWS; expose tools via MCP and Claude Agent SDK.
