Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Content Tools to own APIs and retrieval components that expose governed legal content to AI agents. You’ll collaborate with TR Labs, design end‑to‑end tools, and ensure production quality with contract‑driven interfaces and spec‑driven development.

Role emphasizes Python, FastAPI, and AWS, with on‑call ownership and a focus on reliability, observability in Datadog, and secure, audited tooling for agent workflows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and testing production backend, API, or data-infrastructure systems.
• Mastery of Python and API design with strong testing discipline.
• Solid distributed-systems knowledge and operational ownership.
• Proficiency with AWS, Datadog, and CI/CD practices; experience with AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own Content Tools end-to-end: APIs and retrieval components for precise access to legal content.
• Build API-first tools with versioned contracts and self-service ownership metadata.
• Design retrieval components for latency budgets and token-aware payloads.
• Collaborate with researchers to improve relevance on Vespa-based search.
• Practice verified, spec-driven development with evaluation datasets and CI gates.
• Work in Python, FastAPI, and Pydantic on AWS; use MCP and Claude Agent SDK.
• Embrace AI-assisted development to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality.
• Own on-call incidents and contribute to runbooks and post-mortems.
