Job summary

Thomson Reuters seeks a Staff Software Engineer for Content Tools to set the technical direction of CoCounsel Agent Context APIs that provide governed access to legal content across jurisdictions. You own end-to-end delivery, define patterns, and architect tool contracts as products.

You will work with Python, FastAPI, and AI-assisted development, building verifiable specs, evaluation pipelines, and reliable tooling for cross-team use across Thomson Reuters' platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with progression to staff-level or equivalent leadership.
• Mastery of Python and strong fundamentals across API design, testing strategy, system design, and security architecture.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for the Content Tools catalog and define design patterns.
• Drive API-first, contract-driven tool development with versioned contracts and metadata.
• Architect retrieval and search layers; optimize relevance and tradeoffs between structured and semantic search.
• Define agent invocation models and latency budgets for multi-hop retrieval.
• Build and own shared development and testing infra (libraries, scaffolds, mock services).
• Own verified spec-driven development and CI gates for tool evaluation.
