Job summary

WEX, Inc. is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to design, develop, and enhance agentic, scalable solutions for the Over the Road fleet payments platform. The role focuses on Java-based services, AWS, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and modern containerized architectures in a cloud-native environment.

You will contribute to architecture decisions, build robust APIs, and collaborate across teams to deliver reliable products that drive business growth and customer value.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications.
• Strong experience building cloud-based applications and infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Proficiency with Kafka as an event streaming platform.
• Experience with Elasticsearch indexing, queries, and data analysis.
• Experience working with AWS.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles including data structures, algorithms, OO design, scalability, reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver delightful product experiences powered by Agentic capabilities and cloud-native platforms.
• Contribute to architecture and design decisions for highly available, secure systems.
• Build and maintain clean, well-tested, maintainable code.
• Develop and optimize RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Work across technology stacks and adapt to new tools and frameworks.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices.
