Job summary

WEX is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer to design, develop, and enhance agentic solutions in a cloud-native environment. You will work with Java, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and AWS to deliver scalable, reliable services and RESTful APIs.

You will join an agile team with ownership, contribute to architectural decisions, and partner across teams to ensure operational excellence and strong customer experiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7+ years of software engineering experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise-scale applications.
• Strong experience building cloud-based applications and infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices.
• Proficiency with event streaming platforms such as Kafka.
• Experience with Elasticsearch, including indexing strategies, query optimization, and data analysis.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, data structures, algorithms, OOP design, scalability, availability, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver agentic, scalable software solutions using Java, Kafka, Elasticsearch, and cloud-native platforms.
• Contribute to architecture and design decisions to support highly available and secure systems.
• Build and maintain clean, well-tested, maintainable code and RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Participate in code reviews and collaborative problem-solving sessions.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex technical challenges.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices to improve engineering practices.
