Job summary

Amazon in Seattle, WA is seeking an SDE II on the Billing Data Services (BiDS) team to build and operate the foundations for AWS billing data. You will own large-scale distributed systems, shaping data contracts and storage paths used by hundreds of AWS teams.

You will mentor others, drive architectural direction, and work across teams to uphold data quality and system reliability in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team.
• 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 6+ years of programming with at least one software language.

Responsibilities

• Design high-quality, efficient, and testable code in Java and other OO languages.
• Build large-scale, highly available distributed systems for ingesting, storing, and serving authoritative billing data at AWS scale.
• Design storage and serving paths that meet freshness, accuracy, and latency requirements for downstream billing pipelines.
• Partner with downstream teams on schema and data contract changes, ensuring migrations are backward compatible.
• Own and operate the systems you build, ensuring data quality and operational rigor.
• Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as part of a Scrum team.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers across Commerce Platform teams to deliver features and promote best practices.
