Job summary

Google LLC in Kirkland, WA is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the BigQuery Processing Core Runtime. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and optimize large-scale software that powers our data warehouse.

The role emphasizes C++ and database internals, with opportunities to work across BigQuery and Dremel codebases. You will help improve latency and throughput while contributing to system architecture and performance engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
• 3 years of experience testing, maintaining, or launching software products, and 1 year of experience with software design and architecture.
• 3 years of experience with building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• Experience programming in C++.
• Experience with Database Internals and Query Processing.

Responsibilities

• Write and test product or system development code.
• Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
• Improve BigQuery engine to remove bottlenecks for low latency queries, design solutions that are easy to maintain and extend.
• Work with BigQuery and Dremel codebase, which is primarily C++ with some Java in control planes and Python for tests.

• Experience with C++ to implement multiple database query processing algorithms and data structures on GPU.
• Experience working on performance improvement projects spanning multiple functional areas.
