Job summary

Google Kirkland, WA is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the BigQuery Processing Core Runtime to help advance one of Google Cloud's flagship data platforms. You will contribute to designing and implementing high-performance, scalable infrastructure with a focus on low-latency query processing.

The role requires deep experience in C++, Java, and Python, with a track record in distributed systems and GPU optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience with Java, C/C++, or Python.
• 5 years building large-scale infrastructure or distributed systems.
• Experience with GPU programming (CUDA/OpenCL) and optimizations.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on projects.
• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.
• Improve BigQuery engine to remove bottlenecks for low latency queries, design solutions that are easy to maintain and extend.
• Work with BigQuery and Dremel codebase, primarily C++ with some Java and Python.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 5 years of experience building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage, or hardware architecture.
• Experience with GPU programming (CUDA, OpenCL) and optimization techniques.

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
• 8 years of experience with data structures and algorithms.
• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
• Experience in developing query processing engines for a SQL relational database or large-scale distributed systems.
